Completed in 1816, Tudor Place was the home of Thomas Peter and his wife, Martha Custis Peter, granddaughter of Martha Washington. Tudor Place was designed by Dr. William Thornton, the first architect of the U.S. Capitol, and was home to six generations of the Custis-Peter family for 180 years. Located in Georgetown's historic district, this National Historic Landmark is a house museum distinguished for its neoclassical architecture, decorative arts collection including over 100 objects from George and Martha Washington's Mount Vernon, and 5 1/2 acres of gardens. Tudor Place presents the history of Georgetown, the Federal City, and the nation. It remains a unique and important window into American history.
