 “Where guests always leave as treasured friends” Butterfield, a peaceful escape from your everyday world, surrounded by cedar and oak trees, sets on an ivy-covered hillside overlooking the serene countryside. Our five beautifully decorated rooms offer country comfort and hospitality at its best. Wood burning fireplaces are featured in some rooms as well as in the parlor for cooler nights. In the morning you will be treated to a delicious gourmet breakfast served in the gazebo or on the patio during the warmth of summer and by a crackling fireplace once winter arrives. Afternoon treats are always in the Back Porch Pantry along with an assortment of teas, ciders, coffee, and cocoa. Julian, known for its famous apple pie, is a gold mining town located in the mountains northeast of San Diego. A variety of shops and charming restaurants dot Main Street. Wine tasting, the gold mine tour, and antique shopping. You will find all the time in the world to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Julian. Winters often bring a dusting of snow, spring sends our extensive rose gardens into full bloom, summer breezes welcome the starlit nights, and fall turns the trees into a blaze of colors during apple picking time. Located nearby are Palomar Observatory, Anza Borrego Desert, Lake Cuyamaca, and some of the finest hiking and biking trails in Southern California. Julian is located about an hour east of downtown San Diego. Check-in is from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Check-in outside these hours must be arranged in advance. Breakfast is served at 9:00am.
