For the 2009 San Diego whale watching season Dennis Conner’s famous yacht “America” has teamed up with the Maritime Museum of San Diego to offer this magical vessel to the public every day of the season. Your "Premium Whale Watching" now consists of 3 wonderful components: • A 4 hour ocean sail on this incredible yacht • Amazing whale and dolphin watching opportunities • Access to the adventure and nautical history of the Maritime Museum of San Diego That’s right….you can spend as much time as you wish at the Museum before or after your sail. Stroll the decks of the “Star of India”, crawl through an ancient Russian submarine or play pirates on the “Surprise” from the Russell Crowe movie “Master & Commander”. The 139 foot yacht "America" is the famous vessel that the "America's Cup" international yacht race is named after. She is the most famous vessel in yacht racing history. She carried the Olympic flame into Savannah, Georgia for the start of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. She carries up to 85 guests and conducts "Picnics On The Ocean" with the whales during the whale watching season, from January to March. We provide basic beverages and snacks but recommend that guests bring a picnic lunch, a blanket, their own favorite wine or beer and relax on deck as we sail to the whales and then have an amazing sail back in from the ocean. Whale and dolphin sightings are a frequent bonus to the incredible sailing experience and bragging rights that accompany sailing the "America". This yacht sails very fast for her size. The 139 foot long sailing yacht is perfectly suited for whale watching because of its low sleek lines, deep keel for stability and the ability to quietly approach the whales under sail without using noisy engine power. The yacht’s low sweeping deck also gives guests a great vantage point for photographing the whales up close. In this age of carbon gases and global warming, what better way to see Mother Nature at her best than from the fine teak decks of this beautiful sailing vessel? This is your opportunity to do a small bit towards greening the environment. Normally the yacht is only available for private charter. Boarding Location: Maritime Museum of San Diego 1492 N.
