          • Monterey and Carmel Explorer

            Ticket info /hours

Our Monterey & Carmel Explorer Tour will take you along California's Pacific Coast on your way to historic Monterey & picturesque Carmel-by-the-Sea along with a drive through Pacific Grove in between. Monterey Bay has great geologic and biological significance: it has an incredible abundance of sea life just offshore in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, which borders 276 miles of California’s spectacular coastline. Monterey Bay was the site of the first Europeans to visit the land that became California. Several waves of industrial scale whaling and fishing exploited the bounty of the huge undersea trench offshore. John Steinbeck (Grapes of Wrath) grew up in Salinas and spent much of his creative effort writing about the Monterey area. Two of his books are Tortilla Flat and Cannery Row.

You’ll start the day traveling south on the famous Pacific Coast Highway, California Highway 1 (fog permitting). After a stop in Santa Cruz, a rest break, and optional photo stops along the way, you will set foot on Monterey’s famous Cannery Row for a chance to stroll among the shops and grab a fresh seafood lunch. If you bring your own lunch, you might be able to squeeze in a short trip to the world famous Monterey Aquarium (admission not included). After lunch, you will follow the coast through the beautiful little town of Pacific Grove on the way to the 17-Mile Drive. This famous road winds its way between magnificent homes and the spectacular coastline, between the greens and tees of world famous golf courses like Spyglass Hill, and among the last remaining forest of a rare species of trees, the Monterey Cypress, which is sculpted by relentless pacific breezes into fanciful shapes. The Lone Cypress is a very poignant example of one of these hardy trees hanging on to life (with the help of human engineering) in a seemingly impossible location.

The drive finishes up at the Pebble Beach Village, where you can visit the Pro Shop and see the famous 18th Green. When you’ve paid that much for green fees, you don’t quit at sundown on the 16th hole! Upon arrival in the enchanted town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, you can explore the boutique shops on Ocean Avenue or be dazzled by the white sandy beach. If there is time and interest, we can visit the historic Carmel Mission as a last stop. Our Monterey & Carmel Explorer Tour also has optional short stops in Half Moon Bay or Santa Cruz. Don’t forget this is a semi-private tour, meaning that the itinerary can be customized to your own interests. Come and join our Monterey & Carmel Explorer Tour now for an exquisite experience.

Your "city insider" guide knows where to go so you get the most from your visit to San Francisco. Don't just sit on the dock of the bay - see all of San Francisco's attractions like The Embarcadero, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, Coit Tower, Financial District, Palace of Fine Arts, Chinatown, Nob Hill, The Castro and Mission districts. And the not-to-be-missed Golden Gate Bridge. (Make sure you have enough memory for all those selfies!)

Make your own overnight arrangements, or reserve a campsite. (Tour van has limited space for luggage, so try to keep it small!) For independent travelers or campers, the tour includes San Francisco Hotel pick-up, transportation to Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Valley Tour and drop off at Yosemite Lodge, where you gain your independence, for 48 hours. Your second day is all yours, so you'll be able to do some exploring that you wouldn't have time for in 2 half days. The third day, you will meet another tour group, and finish the day with them and return to San Francisco.

The Three Day Yosemite National Park tour is a great way to spend time doing activities that our 1-day and 2-day tours don't have time for. Do some all day hiking and climb to the top of Yosemite Falls, or if you are really in shape (and get an early start), to the top of Half Dome, or only part way, to the top of Nevada Falls or Vernal Falls. Mirror Lake is just a short uphill walk, and you can just take it easy and walk around the beautiful valley floor, and ride NPS vehicles such as the Tram Tour, or bus it up to Glacier Point, or the Mariposa Grove (fare extra). In winter, some locations are inaccessible, but the scenery is completely different - the Yosemite Valley itself is a winter waterfall wonderland, and there are times when you might feel you have the place to yourself.

The next day, you will meet a bit later in the afternoon around 3 to 3:30 PM at Yosemite Lodge to join another tour group for your return to San Francisco and your hotel or hostel.

          • Beyond Napa Valley Wine Tour

            Ticket info /hours

On this intensely satisfying 1-day wine country tour you'll join a small group of other wine enthusiasts to explore the fertile lands, perfect climate and charming family-owned wineries in four distinct Sonoma AVAs. Return home with a greater appreciation for the wine and its makers!

Napa is terrific. But equally acclaimed American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) await the wine curious and wine enthusiast. On this one-day wine country tour, you'll visit celebrated and award-winning wine makers in four distinct AVAs. We'll go off the beaten path into the benchlands and ridgelines of Sonoma County to discover vintages you will treasure.

Alexander Valley: King of Cabs. The breathtaking Mayacama Mountains loom above the Alexander Valley AVA. On its rolling hillsides of volcanic, calcium, sand and clay soils, Cabernet Sauvignon grapes thrive. Further up the mountain ridges, stressed soil conditions and cool Pacific breezes extend the growing season producing grapes with added color, flavor and complexity. You can taste this sublime marriage of soil and climate in premier wines from Clos Du Bois, Rodney Strong, Ferrari-Carano and Silver Oak.

In the tasting room of our first winery, you'll come to appreciate the benefits of barrel-aging at a steady temperature and humidity. You'll learn about sustainable farming and how electricity is spared in naturally cooled caves as you taste wines straight from French-oak barrels.

Dry Creek perfection. Next, we'll skip over to the small 16-by-2-mile AVA of Dry Creek. The soil here is a gravelly clay loam, strikingly red in color, that is as perfect for grape-growing as it gets. Relatively low precipitation makes it difficult for vines to establish their roots, a condition that makes blockbuster zinfandel, the region’s signature varietal.

At our stop in Dry Creek, you will enjoy a five-wine flight featuring releases from a single-vineyard collection. The tasting takes place alongside aging barrels in a wine cave tucked under 100-year-old zinfandel vines. There, face to face with the wine maker, you'll learn how they use the gifts of the AVA to make "wines of place".

Scenic Russian River Valley. The Russian River Valley AVA, in the heart of Sonoma County, is blessed with a climate remarkedly like the Bordeaux region in France. Long, warm days and coastal cooling in the evening enable grapes to mature slowly and retain their acidity. With good reason, this AVA is widely regarded as Pinot Noir country. You'll also find exceptional Chardonnay, Syrah, Sauvignon blanc, Gewurztraminer, Cabernet Franc varietals here.

To fully experience this valley, our small-group tour will experience a smallish family-owned winery outside the idyllic town of Healdsburg. Using old wine barrels as tables, you'll not just taste their chardonnays and pinots but learn how the natural characteristics of the region's soil and climate are accentuated by the wine maker. We'll be sure to remind you to soak up the rolling hills, bright wildflowers and gorgeous vineyards all around.

Surprising Petaluma Gap. The new Petaluma Gap AVA is on the wild, wind-swept Pacific coast not far from the northern span of the Golden Gate bridge. At first, it seems more naturally suited for dairy farming than grape growing. But the Sonoma Coast is full of pleasant surprises, most delightfully that some of California's most celebrated Chardonnay grapes are grown there. The most prized vines grow high on ridges where Pacific breezes roaring through Petaluma all the way to San Pablo bay allow a harvest of grapes with mature, dry flavors and aromas.

Our final stop of the day will be at a vineyard estate located at the heart of Sonoma's Petaluma Gap. In its cellars, you'll sample wines produced from fruit grown on the property. The sustainable, gravity flow methods employed by this "family-first" winery are impressive, much like its elegant, balanced and age-worthy wines.

          • All Star Craft Beer Crawl

            Ticket info /hours

The craft beer scene in San Francisco is on fire. For this 1-day tour of craft and micro-breweries in San Francisco, our most finicky guides have put together this drinkable showcase. You'll be chauffeured to four rock-star breweries to sample the best classic IPAs and experimental brews.

Put your game face on—we're about to do some serious beer tasting. The craft brewing scene in San Francisco is electric and changing by the day. This small-group tour through the San Francisco districts features award-winning beers served up in new-urban style. Our tour changes from time to time - here are the Spring/Summer 2018 highlights.

"Dogpatch" is man's best friend. "Dogpatch" is the fresh new scene for craft and micro-brewing in San Francisco. Triple Voodoo is the quintessential urban brew pub - ridiculously small and rowdy. Sixteen rotating beers on tap. If the Eagle Rare Barrel Aged King Leo Belgian stout or the Just Because oatmeal pale ale are available—try them!

Urban brew masters. It's a short trip over to the Central Waterfront district to visit our next all-star. When you arrive at the appropriately-named Harmonic Brewing, look for a seat at the bar. The Yonder Wall Wit, Cold Press Stout and Harmonic Kolsch are fan favorites. Some of the experimental brews reach 8% alcohol, so sip carefully! Need a little snack, try an order of the Good-to-go-dumplings. Amazing!

Back to the future. Before Anchor Brewing became a full-fledged commercial brewery, it was a billiards saloon. One hundred and twenty years later, the establishment is new again. Across from their Potrero Hill brewery, Public Taps is home to The Potrero Project - a collection of beers brewed and served exclusively for on-site patrons. We tried and loved Od'Vi Strong Ale, Peach P'Weisse and the Double Trouble IPA. Hungry? Try the food trucks in the parking lot.

What's your gastrological sign? Our last stop is a downtown gastropub that captures the essence of San Francisco - both old and new. Bartlett Hall has a broad selection of beverages including its own house-brewed beer. If your body is saying its dinnertime, go ahead and hang. The Bartlett's friendly staff have designed a seasonally-driven menu that's both approachable and forward-thinking.

            Afternoon:
            Convenient pickup near Union Square
Tour the production room and enjoy a flight at a Dogpatch brewery
Taste and learn the fine points of brewing at a Waterfront District micro-brewery

            Early Evening:
Enjoy experimental beers at Anchor Brewing Public Tap
Return to San Francisco’s Union Square
Enjoy the vibe at an urban gastropub
