Located just 16 miles south of DC at the end of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Mount Vernon, the most popular historic estate in America, features George Washington’s Mansion as it appeared in 1799. Guests can explore more than a dozen outbuildings, four distinct gardens, a Forest Trail, and a four-acre exhibition farm. George and Martha Washington rest in peace in the tomb, and members of Mount Vernon's enslaved community are honored at the nearby Slave Memorial and Burial Ground.
From 2023-2026, Mount Vernon will embark on a landmark preservation project to safeguard the Mansion’s original building fabric and ensure its structural integrity for generations to come. Work areas outside of the Mansion will be fenced off, and as work progresses through the house, individual rooms will be taken off display temporarily.
